Parents for Public Schools Receives $300,000 Grant from Marguerite Casey Foundation

Jackson, MS. (August 7, 2015)  – The national office of Parents for Public Schools (PPS) is pleased to announce it has received a three-year, $300,000 grant from the Marguerite Casey Foundation. These funds will support training and provide educational opportunities and support to parents to improve the quality of public education in Mississippi. This work is in alignment with Marguerite Casey Foundation’s Equal Voice framework.

Over the three year period, PPS will engage parents and caregivers in forums, provide parent engagement training, advocate for adequate funding for public schools in MS, work to improve policies effecting children, and continue network development work to galvanize PPS chapters in Mississippi.

“We are honored and grateful that the Marguerite Casey Foundation believes in our intentional approach to parent engagement and education reform work that helps improve educational outcomes for children,” said Dr. Catherine Cushinberry, National Executive Director of Parents for Public Schools. “The role of parents and caregivers in their children’s educational achievement is a critical one.  PPS works to provide families with tools to help them better advocate, lead, and partner with school and community leaders to support student success. The lives of our children depend on it.”

Marguerite Casey Foundation provides multiyear general operating support grants to organizations that put families at the forefront of efforts to fight poverty and work together across issues, regions, race, and ethnicities to bring about long-term change that improves the lives of all families.
